How I saved $80 on a new A/C unit

(tldr; forgot my wallet at home, asked Lowe's staff if I could use mobile app for curbside pickup, used app to ring myself out and paypal to pay - web had unit listed for $80 cheaper than the store did)

So I'm in this one bedroom loft situation, but like a real loft with an open bedroom above the living room/kitchen.  Not the "lofts" they offer in cities, which are basically closets-turned-apartments at 500 and less sq feet.  I'm very luck to have it!  It was constructed in the late 90s and at that time, someone had made a decision to install an air conditioner through the wall, so there's a cut-out in the wall for a unit.  Back in the late 90s, Sears and Kenmore were a good bet.  They'd installed a unit that could be purchased with a wall-mount cabinet or a window-mount kit.  It died sometime in 2019.

So this year, I finally got around to removing the old unit so I could replace it. Well, it's not the current standard size as the cutout is 24" W x 15" H - the closest wall-mount unit I could find required at 25" cutout.  So I started looking at window units, since the old one could be either.

I found one that should cool the entire space, which is excellent, but I struggled today with getting it installed.  I had to take the cabinet out and then install it and treat it as if it were a window.  I then had to chisel away about 1/8" depth in 1.25 wide spots in order to get it to just fit, but I did it.  That thing is going no-where!  Just in time for the next 1-day heat wave here in New England.

I had to get a brand I'd never heard of before, Hisense.  So here's hoping it works for another 20 years.

I have a bit of an amusing story about how I purchased this.  I left my wallet at home and didn't fancy a round trip to retrieve it.  So I asked at the curbside order pickup spot if I could purchase everything in my cart online through the app and they'd check me out.  Absolutely!  So I got to use PayPal to buy items from Lowe's while I was in store.  They were stoked because they didn't have to shop for me.  I was stoked, but then worried something about apocalypse, rapture, mark of the beast or something like that.  Meh!  Probably unrelated.  And in addition, I saved $80 on the unit because the store had it marked higher than the website.
